0 Building Muscle will Help You Fight Aging

By Vito La Fata

When you think of a senior citizen, what comes to mind? If you are like a lot of people, you say things like, "He seems weak," or "She seems like she could break in two!" We say this even if the senior citizen that we are describing does not even have an illness. They just move more carefully and they walk slow. And other people tend to do things for them.

The reason older people seem so fragile may shock you, but hopefully you will be encouraged too. Because although it seems like it is inevitable that you will become weak and frail as you age, it is not inevitable at all. The reason that older people are frail is due to a condition called sarcopenia. It means that they are losing muscle.

You see, starting around the age of 25, everyone starts to lose muscle mass. And as you get older, the process begins picking up speed. In fact, around the age of 40, most women will lose nearly one-half pound of muscle every year!

However, there is something you can do to slow down this process and even cause it to stop. And do not worry if you have already lost muscle for a few years. You can build up the muscle that is left so that you may even become stronger than you have ever been!

Building muscle is not complicated, and it does not even take much time: a little goes a long way. Here are just a few ways your life will improve as a result of strength training: stops muscle loss in its tracks so you remain strong as you get older, sculpts your body, and builds muscle which will burn more calories, even while you are resting!

In order to build muscle mass, it is important to cause your bones and tendons to be stressed. You actually cause little injuries to your muscles. As those little injuries heal, your muscles build up larger and stronger.
